A brief history of our Society

Our Society was formed in 1979 by the first Chairman, Elizabeth Smith and at that time was not part of NADFAS. The Society invited mainly local speakers who addressed members on a wide variety of associated arts related subjects. The Society did not meet every month in order to keep costs down. However, before long the Society became a part of NADFAS and was able to benefit from everything it offered (please see above).

The Society celebrated its 25th Anniversary on 19 April 2004 with a special meeting followed by a celebratory lunch party given at the home of the then Chairman.

Recently the name of the Society has been changed from the Rother Valley Design and Fine Arts Society  and is now known as The Arts Society Rother Valley in order to encompass the much wider area from which our members now come to meetings stretching from Rye to Pevensey and all the surrounding areas including Battle, Bexhill, Robertsbridge etc with Hastings in the centre.
